Nobody Is Using Your App Because Nobody Knows Who You Are

Vibe coding is exciting. Shipping a build is not the hard part. Connecting to a real user is, and that is a media problem.

From My Next Guest with Daniel Ro. The episode is in the panel.

Someone tweets that they have been coding something behind the scenes that the world has never seen. I read that and I think, come down.

I am not trying to put anybody down. It is exciting. I get it. I see it on YouTube, I see it on X every day. But the pattern is always the same. First they think they are geniuses.

“First they think they're geniuses. I'm like, come down.”
01

The code is the easy part

Developers can be good at coding these things. Engineers can be good at designing them. Then comes the part that decides whether anyone ever uses it.

”

Connecting to your actual user is another monster.

That is where media matters. Being on social. Some behind the scenes. A podcast. Those things are helpful, and most builders skip all of them.

9:42
“The marketing aspect, the media aspect, that's another monster.”
Take this with you

Treat distribution as part of the build, not something you get to after launch. If you can describe the product, you can already start recording.

02

Talking to a camera is hard. Talking to a person is not.

When you talk straight into a camera it gets uncomfortable. You lose your thoughts. You need coaching. You need reps.

“When you're talking to the camera it becomes a little uncomfortable.”

A podcast is easier for someone who has never built a personal brand. It is easy for me to talk about what I believe, my hobbies, my companies, my passion, my obstacles, my challenges. Eventually you get better. Then talking straight to the camera gets easier too.

”

Talking to a person is just a conversation.

I tell everyone the same thing before we roll. Relax. Bring your drink. Be casual. Be you. The only exception is the client who wants the formal look, like an insurance company, and we can do that too.

03

How I actually use a teleprompter

I do not read the whole script straight through. I segment it by blocks. I read one block, I stop, then I start the next one.

14:25
“What I usually do is I segment it by blocks.”

The stop is the instruction. The AI video editor reads that gap and knows to drop in a slide, an intro, or an animation before the next segment. Hey guys, welcome to another podcast, today I am talking about A, B and C. Stop. Next block.

04

It is training, not a prompt

The AI assisted editing works because I trained it on fifteen years of video editing. That is where it comes from. A friend of mine told me he created an AI video editor.

”

He said he created an AI video editor. He did nothing.

What that training buys you is speed. What takes days for a team of video editors, the agents turn around. They cut the content for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, and they handle publishing on YouTube, Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Take this with you

Do not hand your footage to a tool you have not trained on your own standards. The experience behind the tool is the part you cannot skip.

05

Six months is not a test

I know it is not a small investment. I tell my clients the same thing every time. You have to stick with it. One recording gives you tons of content. You can post for thirty days off a single podcast.

Most people get six months in and start saying they are not getting views, they are not getting likes. I hate that. Do not tell me you are chasing the views. You stay consistent for years.

“You got to stick with it.”
Try it this week
1

Record one conversation instead of trying to film yourself alone.

2

Cut that one recording into thirty days of posts before you record again.

3

Stop checking views and commit to a run measured in years, not months.

06

The hidden gem problem

Long Beach, New York has about thirty five thousand people and we are still disconnected. People ask me where Bridgeworks is and have no idea. Then I say it is near the tennis bubbles, or across the bridge, and suddenly they know the building. Good space, good parking, good location, and people still do not pay attention.

The other thing I like here is the size. Most fitness and wellness spaces in town are small, so you are limited to the same kind of event. And most local places treat it as a transaction. Come here, here is your event, get out, next event.

”

Here is your event, get out, next event. I would rather build a partnership.

Take this with you

If people need a landmark to place you, you are invisible online. Say who you are and what you do out loud, on camera, until they can repeat it back.

If you only take three things

01

Shipping the build does not make you known. The media work is a separate skill.

02

Start with a conversation, not a camera. The reps come after.

03

Consistency beats views. Six months of posting is not a test of anything.

We do this in the podcast room at Bridgeworks in Long Beach, New York. You show up, we keep it casual, and you leave with footage and content ready to post. Text me if you want a slot.
